Shaman adventurers are needed at the Maelstrom to gather the remaining Earthen Ring who survived the battle at the Broken Shore by Thrall's order. As Thrall and Farseer Nobundo discuss how to defeat the Burning Legion. Nobundo comments that the artifacts needed are capable of overcoming the Legion threat.
Unfortunately, the Legion found them before they could reinforce. Lead by the Fel Lord Geth'xun, the Earthen Ring were able to push them back including the Fel Lord. However, Doomhammer was dismantled from Thrall's hands and it had fallen into Deepholm. Thrall, Stormcaller Mylra and the Shaman adventurer quickly made it to the realm of Earth. Within the Crumbling Depths, they searched for the Doomhammer and eventually finds out that Geth'xun survived his encounter with Thrall. Thrall severely injured, he was falling behind Mylra and the Shaman adventurer. Thrall thinks that after his battle with Garrosh, the elements were silent and didn't react to his hour of need.
As the three shamans pressed onward deeper in the depths, they saw Geth'xun and the Doomhammer. Mylra distracted Geth'xun as the shaman adventurer picked up the Doomhammer. After the battle was won, Thrall says that the Doomhammer chose the shaman adventurer and wielded powers even he couldn't tap into. I liked Garrosh too. I was sad that they decided to make him go full on super-villain. He was on the right track in Stonetalon Mountains and then they ruined his character. I'm not sure what to make of Thrall anymore. I didn't mind him until Mists and beyond. I liked him from the get-go in Lord of the Clans and well into Wrath and Cata.

Upon returning to Orgrimmar, Vol'jin - suffering from fel poisoning from the broken spear tip still in his body - calls the Horde leadership together; Sylvanas is the last to arrive. Vol'jin reveals that the loa spirits have told him death will claim him soon. He admits that he had never trusted Sylvanas, nor would he have believed that in the Horde's darkest hour, she would have been the one to save it.
But the spirits have granted him 'clarity', all whispering a name to him. With his dying breath, Vol'jin declares Sylvanas the new Warchief of the Horde, knowing that others will not understand his decision, but telling her she must step out of the shadows and lead. After the battle was won, Thrall says that the Doomhammer chose the shaman adventurer and wielded powers even he couldn't tap into. Thrall then goes his own way with his family, he depended on the shaman adventurer to bring the Earthen Ring together against the Legion. His Shaman powers aren't working. He's not very useful, is currently weaker than the PC, and is not capable of becoming the Warchief because Sylvanas is already the Warchief.
