If your character is a lower level, which I can assume it is at the moment, you might try a couple things. Either bypass King Leoric for now and go back to him once you're level is higher, or you might just want to unleash several Holy Bolts on him. Both the Butcher and King Leoric are a bit harder than the levels they are on.

Leoric uses a sodding great big sword. He attacks slow, but to make up for this speed deficit, he steals life (via the Undead Crown). If you can do more damage over a period of time that he can you will best him with ease.I guess the other problem is he is not alone. But his minions are far weaker than he is.
